Invitation to Exhibitors
The Detroit Free Press Marathon is a unique event!
It’s one of the oldest marathons, beginning in 1963. The Detroit Free Press began sponsoring the race in 1978, making 2010 the 33rdd running. With a course that traverses some of the most picturesque and historical areas of Detroit, we are the only international marathon in North America crossing the US and Canada borders twice – via both the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.
Where do our runners come from?
Marathoners in 2009 represented 59 countries, 43 states (including Washington D.C.) and five Canadian provinces.
We’re among the fastest growing marathons in the country!
With over 19,000 participants across all events, we’ve experienced an 800% increase since 1998.
Demographics:
Long distance runners are young, educated and affluent. They like spending money on quality products and services.
• 51% are men; 49% women
• Average age is 39
• 84% have a college degree; 57% have attended graduate school
• $95,000 average household income
• 80% come from Southeast Michigan and Ontario
Extraordinary Opportunity
The marathon experience is more than a 26.2-mile run. Attendant events include the half-marathon run & walk, 5-person relay, 5K fun run & walk, and a kid’s 5K fun run. Most participants travel with companions and family. The weekend also utilizes the power of over 3,500 volunteers, 200 businesses and organizations, and spectator estimates of over 150,000. In all ways, the Detroit Free Press Marathon gives the ordinary person an extraordinary experience, and provides businesses an extraordinary audience for moving merchandise and services to 35,000+ consumers.
