IMPORTANT HOMELAND SECURITY REGULATIONS

On June 1, 2009 more stringent requirements for border crossings in North America were implemented.  ALL participants 16 and older in the international events (Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay legs 1 & 2) MUST personally present a passport or enhanced drivers license when picking up their race packets. Children under the age of 16 will be able to personally present proof of citizenship (birth certificate, naturalization card or passport). There are NO exceptions.

Requirements
You must be able to complete the marathon in 6 hours and 30 minutes (from 7:15 a.m.) and be at least 16 years of age to compete. The Marathon is fortunate to offer two international border crossings during the course of our event. To continue providing this unique opportunity, we MUST re-open the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel to vehicular traffic at 10:00 AM. To ensure your safety, and to meet this time limit, you must reach the entrance to the tunnel by 9:40 AM. The "Last Chance Pacer" will help you get to, and through, the tunnel on time. If you cannot keep up with this pacer at any time (including IN the tunnel), then we will ask you to board a bus that will take you to the finish line area, where you can meet up with friends and family.

Time Requirements

You must be able to complete the marathon in six and a half hours from the time the “Last Chance Pacer” crosses the start line. We will close the marathon course at 2:05 PM.

We consider our events “competitive”, and not simply as fun runs or walks.  A “Last Chance Pacer” will be provided for your event.  These pacers will travel at the average pace needed to cross the finish line at six and a half hours. Your progress will be monitored throughout the race. If you fall significantly behind the “Last Chance Pacer”, you will be given fair warning to pick up the pace. If you can’t keep pace, you will be required to board a bus following the pacers to be transported back to the start-finish area.

We are fortunate to offer two international border crossings during the course of our event. To continue providing this unique opportunity, we MUST re-open the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel to vehicular traffic at 10:00 AM. To ensure your safety and to meet all time limits, we have established the following milestones:

Marathon and 5-Person Relay

1.85 Mile Mark (Bridge Entrance)……….….8:02 AM
6.9 Mile Mark (Tunnel Entrance)……….…..9:14 AM
8.1 Mile Mark (Tunnel Exit)……………….…..9:35 AM
12.7 Mile Mark (Campus Martius)………….10:44 AM
13.1 Mile Mark………………………………….…10:50 AM
16 Mile Mark……………………………………….11:33 AM
18 Mile Mark……………………………………….12:47 PM
23 Mile Mark…………………………………………1:17 PM
Finish Line…………………………………………….2:05 PM

NOTE: If at any time, you fall behind these milestone times, you may be required to board a bus to be transported back to the start-finish area.

International Requirements
The marathon, half marathon, and 5-person relays are international events crossing the US/Canadian border twice. It is a privilege and an honor to use the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Do not drop articles of clothing, water bottles, tissue, or paper cups as you run across these prestigious landmarks.

It is imperative that you accurately complete all information on the registration form, including date of birth, citizenship, and green card information (if applicable). All registrations are submitted to the Department of Homeland Security for pre-approval. For further requirements and restrictions
