Volunteer for the 2026 Detroit Free Press Marathon
Thank you to all our 2025 volunteers for your incredible support!
Volunteers are essential to the success of marathon weekend – playing a pivotal role in ensuring everything runs smoothly. Volunteer jobs include distributing bibs and goodie bags prior to race day, communicating with runners at the start line, distributing water throughout the course, directing runners at various points during the races, and placing medals at the finish line.
Each year, the marathon recruits more than 3,000 volunteers. It’s a perfect opportunity for individuals and groups to be part of race weekend. We’re happy to work with you to ensure a great volunteer experience!
All volunteers must be registered through the EnMotive volunteer system.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Groups such as sports teams, schools, run clubs, nonprofits, workplace teams, and clubs are encouraged to volunteer together. It’s a great way to build community, earn service hours, and support one of Detroit’s biggest events.
Groups of 20 or more who volunteer and check in during marathon weekend may be eligible to receive a donation.
