Welcome to Spring – we’re one season closer to Marathon Weekend! We’re less than 200 days out and our Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon staff is running at full steam to make this the best year yet. So… what has been going on at Marathon HQ you ask?
The t-shirt design process has officially started! This year we are looking to do a color we have never done before. We did a member in its color family in 2013. Any guesses on what this year’s exciting color may be? This year we are creating a special shirt for our domestic races and one for our international races. If you are running an international race (Marathon, International Half-Marathon, Relay) your shirt will feature a special, international landmark. If you are running a domestic race (1-Mile, 5K, U.S.-Only Half-Marathon) your shirt will feature a Detroit landmark.
Medal sketches have been created! This year, with the addition of our new Motor City Challenge Series, comes a brand-new medal concept. Marathon Digital Director, Leah, is our official sketch artist and has created an exciting design that will (HINT) make your head spin! We will also have an exciting suite of re-designed medals for all races, featuring Detroit and international landmarks with a classic feel. Look Out! Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers will soon have a contest where you can help decide which vehicle should be on this year’s medal.
Free Race Photos for All! This year we are incredibly excited to announce that race photos will be free to all runners and walkers of the Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon! This includes runners and walkers who sign up for the 1-Mile, 5K, Marathon, International Half-Marathon, U.S.-Only Half-Marathon and Marathon Relay. So start practicing your mid-run wave and best finish line smile. We can’t wait to see everyone’s photos!
Now is the time to Register! Registration prices increase April 30 at 11:59pm. Our Motor City Challenge Series races are close to being sold out. Don’t miss this opportunity for our first ever race series! And after you register, make sure you start to plan your weekend in Detroit!
